Instructions for Poster Presentations at the
2007 IBE Poster Session and Student Competition

Revised - March 9, 2007

Barring changes in the program, the Poster Session and Student Competition will take place on Saturday, March 31, noon - 2:00 p.m. (please refer to the final program for the actual date, time, and location of the poster session). Students should be positioned near their posters from noon to 1:30 p.m. to answer questions from their peers and judges about their research or engineering design work.

Each poster must be set-up for display in the poster exhibit room, 7:00 - 8:00 a.m., Saturday, March 31. Display boards and pushpins will be provided for mounting the posters. Because scheduling changes can occur, please visit the website periodically to gain updates on the conference and the poster session.

The maximum size for posters is 90 inches wide x 45 inches tall (228 cm wide x 114 cm tall). Posters exceeding the maximum size will be disqualified from the student poster competition. A one-piece poster is recommended. The title, authors, and academic affiliation should appear at the top of the poster. The lettering for the title should be at least 1 inch (72 point) tall. The font size for text should be at least 1/4 inch (18 point), preferably larger. Keep in mind that the text and figures must be easily readable by viewers from a distance of at least 3 feet (1 meter). Sans-serif fonts (such as Arial or Helvetica) are recommended. Avoid stylized or outline fonts and excessive italics.

Do not prepare a poster as if it were a manuscript. Keep text to a minimum; use tables and figures. Details on your work can be communicated during discussions with viewers, and, if you wish, you may distribute handouts on your work during the poster session. When preparing your posters, remember that your viewers and judges will come from a broad range of disciplines within the biological engineering community, so the poster should be aimed at a broad technical audience.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at the IBE poster session!
